Our Story
Uganda community association Liverpool – UCAL was born in 2012. Since then, we have been focused on a mission to link and support the Ugandan diasporic people in Liverpool, Merseyside. We purposed to equip and support black African women and their families, to make the most of available opportunities including digital ones. UCAL is a welcoming home for Ugandans living in Liverpool and the surrounding Merseyside area. We help people build relationships, understand local opportunities, celebrate Ugandan heritage and take an active role in the wider society. Our work brings generations together and responds to the practical, social and cultural needs that can affect Ugandans at different stages of their life.
Meet the UCAL Leadership Team
Swaibu Ssemakula
Chairperson – Provides overall leadership, chairs meetings and guides UCAL’s priorities, governance and community partnerships.
Justine Kigozi Odwongo
Vice Chairperson – Supports the Chairperson, coordinates committee work and helps maintain continuity across UCAL’s activities.
Dr. Edward Kuteesa
Treasurer – Oversees UCAL’s finances, supports responsible budgeting and helps ensure clear, transparent financial reporting.
Millie Adela Kiyimba
Secretary for Welfare – Coordinates welfare concerns, practical support and community care for members and families facing difficult circumstances.
Gabriella Kavuma
Youth Secretary – Represents young people and helps shape activities that build youth confidence, participation and development.
Richard Kiyimba
Vice Youth Secretary – Supports youth engagement and helps younger community members take an active role in UCAL and wider Liverpool life.
Sarah Kauma
Women Affairs Secretary –Â Advocates for women and families, promotes inclusion and helps shape activities that respond to their priorities.
