UCAL made Liverpool feel like home." When my family arrived in Liverpool, we did not know many people or understand how to access local services. Through UCAL, we met other Ugandan families who welcomed us warmly and helped us settle into the community. We attended family events, received guidance on schools and GP registration, and joined parenting workshops that explained how the UK education and safeguarding systems work. Today, we feel much more confident and connected. Our children have made new friends, and we have built a support network that we can rely on. UCAL Membership is Open to:
(1) Ugandans living in Liverpool by birth, decent, registration, naturalisation, and marriage who wish to be part of the community.
(2) Friends and well wishers from Liverpool and other areas may participate and donate but will not be full members (will not have voting powers as laid down in This Constitution)
(3) To individuals over eighteen and/ or organisations, that are approved by the trustees
(a) The trustees may only refuse an application for membership if, acting reasonably and properly, they consider it to be in the best interests of the UCAL to refuse the application.
(b) The trustees must inform the applicant in writing with the reasons for the refusal, within twenty-one days of the decision and Is considered final.
(c ) The trustees must consider any written representations the applicant may make about the decision.
(4) The UCAL membership is not transferable to anyone else.
- The General Secretary or designated committee member shall keep a live register of names and addresses of the members and must keep the register in accordance to GDPR and Data protection regulations.
(5) UCAL Membership Fee:
Our constitution stipulates that UCAL members shall discuss and vote on the relevance and amount of membership subscription fee.
Following community consultation on 9th October 2023, the initial Membership fee was set and agreed as follows
- Adults (18yrs and above) shall pay an annual set amount of £20 that is subject to review annually or at the discretion of the UCAL leadership committee with increments of a minimum of 10% of current subscription rates.
- All children of age 12yrs and under are covered under their parents or responsible adult rates mentioned above.
- Young adults between 13 years to 17 year are eligible to pay half the adult membership rates.
